A COVID trend that is good: hair donations are up!

There’s a new beauty trend happening as a result of COVID-19 - donation haircuts. When the pandemic closed salon doors, lots of people just started letting their hair grow out, and now that they can get their post-quarantine cut, they’re donating all that extra length.

A quick search on Instagram or Twitter for#hairdonationsshows images of people proudly showing off their before and after pictures, with some of them holding the chopped off ponytails and braids that will be sent to charitable organizations. The combo of wanting to do something good to help others right now and longer wait times between salon visits has given folks more time to grow out, cut, and donate their locks.

That’s good news for the charities that use the donations to make wigs.Jeffrey Paul, founder ofWigs for Kidssays it takes a minimum of 12 weeks to make a wig and the pause in production due to the pandemic means they have to make up for lost time to keep up with demand. But now he says they’ve seen an increase in donations per week compared to their pre-coronavirus averages. And since this good deed makes people feel good too, it’s a trend that could continue and that’s good all around.
