TIKTOK: U.S. Considering Banning Chinese App
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says the U.S. is considering banning Chinese social media apps, "especially TikTok," citing personal security concerns.
Speaking with Fox News, Pompeo said, "I don't want to get out in front of the President, but it's something we're looking at." He warned that TikTok users may be putting their personal information right into the "hands of the Chinese Communist Party." TikTok is owned by Beijing-based company ByteDance and has been accused by some in the U.S. government of providing intelligence support to China.
TikTok has responded saying the company is "led by an American CEO, with hundreds of employees and key leaders across safety, security, product, and public policy here in the US. We have no higher priority than promoting a safe and secure app experience for our users. We have never provided user data to the Chinese government, nor would we do so if asked."
