Lots of things have changed about this year’s back to school season but one thing that hasn’t is that college is still expensive AF. Lucky for all you current students that there are grads that have already figured out how to save you a buck or two. Here are some of the best free and low-cost resources for you to check out.
- Try to use open-source textbooks. The average college student spent $1,240 on books and supplies last year.Yikes!Instead of going new, or praying to find a used book that is in one piece, try open-source textbooks. Check sites like OpenStax, Open Textbook Library, MERLOT, and Bookboon. Why? They’re free!
- See what your student fees cover.Remember that student handbook they gave you at orientation that you immediately threw into the back of your desk? Pull it out and see what your student fees really get you. You might be missing out on things like fitness centers, transportation, and a whole bunch of other stuff you’re already paying for.
- Ask if you qualify for anything at the awards office.Boost that resume y’all! Check-in with your school’s awards office for any grants or awards that you qualify for. It’s free money and recognition so why not?
- Take advantage of the Career Center.Look into what your school’s Career Center has to offer as well. There’s probably help with things like cover letters, interviews, and networking. There might also be free stuff like fancy paper or thank you cards. Either way, it’s worth perusing their website at least.
