The newest addition to Barbie’s Inspiring Women Doll Series launches today. More than 100 years after her death, Susan B. Anthony lives on as a Barbie. According to Mattel, this collection “pays tribute to courageous women of their time who took risks and changed rules” and Anthony fits in perfectly. She helped women get the right to vote and was even arrested for voting herself in the presidential election of 1872, long before that was legal for women.
Anthony’s doll comes dressed in the fashions of her era, a floor length black dress accented with lace on the sleeves and bodice. She’s also wearing a cameo brooch on her lace collar and has tiny round-frame glasses on. Mattel worked with the experts at theNational Susan B. Anthony Museum & Housein Rochester, New York, to get the details of the doll right.
The Barbie’s release coincides with the 200th anniversary of Anthony’s birth and the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment guaranteeing women the right to vote. It can be ordered now on theMattel siteand atTarget.comfor $29.99.
