NO: It can be a very powerful word that helps you out!

FOMO is a powerful thing. It can have you saying yes to every invite in your Facebook notifications. Which is great if you're looking for a great way to burn out fast. If you have trouble saying "no," here are some tips to start and get your time back.

  • Slow Things Down. Your schedule might be constantly full simply because you're stuck on autopilot. Stop making "yes" your default answer. Switch to saying "maybe" or "let me get back to you on this." Take a moment to think if you really have the time or not.
  • Know you can change your mind. If you're worried that changing from yes to no on an invite will make you "flakey," don't. It's okay to change your mind. Plus anyone that's going to rag on you for choosing your mental health isn't worth your time anyway.
  • Take baby steps. No need to kick off your new life of 'no' by wiping out your entire schedule. Start small. Pass on an unnecessary Zoom call or meeting. Build up your "no" confidence until your shooting down gender reveal parties.
