Bet you didn’t think at the start of the ‘rona that we’d be talking about it affecting Christmas, but here we are.The holiday season is upon us and it’s going to take some creativity to keep some traditions going in 2020. Here are some of the biggest differences to expect while you’re decking the halls this year.
- Shopping Kicks Off Much Earlier. Remember when everyone was mad about Christmas shopping sneaking into Thanksgiving? How quaint. This year it’s snuck past Halloween. Today marks the beginning of Amazon Prime Day with the company hoping to get in orders super early so that they have enough time to ship everything out. And everyone out there still waiting for a shipment of toilet paper approves.
- Deals Will Be More Drawn Out. Black Friday and Cyber Monday aren’t going to be the 24-hours of spending mayhem that we’ve come to know and love. Instead, they’ll be extended to last multiple days or even a week. According to shopping analyst Gabrielle Pastorek, they’re drawing it out because of the economic crisis and to give consumers a chance to spread out their spending instead of getting hit with one big bill.
- Less Interest In Traditional Gifts. Consumer expert Dana Marineau says that this year “shoppers will look for items or experiences that bring them closer to family and friends.” She’s predicting that tablets for video chatting, gaming consoles, streaming subscriptions, and future trips will be the hot ticket items in 2020. And expect to see a good portion of your gift cards coming to you via your inbox because Marineau also believes virtual gift cards are going to be big.
